Jets rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders spoke to the media Wednesday for the first time since his car accident, but he didn’t say a whole lot. The circumstances surrounding the unusual incident remain murky.

Saunders drove off the road on his way to the team’s training facility last Friday. The police report termed the accident a “medical incident,” which led to him careen his vehicle off the road.

A source tells Metro the incident occurred at the traffic light right before the team’s facility. Saunders wouldn’t go into details about what happened though, saying, “I don’t want to relive that moment.”

“Nothing pre-existing or anything,” Saunders said. “Just some unusual events that led me to get some tests done at the hospital. I’m doing better today than I was last week. That’s the end of that.”

When asked if he had ever experienced anything like that before, Saunders simply said, “No.”

Saunders, who was taken in the fourth round of this past May’s NFL Draft, has had an impressive offseason. He was a quick and solid route runner with reliable hands. This week, he’s ridden the exercise bicycle but has not practiced. He did not play in last weekend’s second game of preseason game against the Bengals.

On Wednesday, he wore a white bucket cap as he watched drills.

“I’m not sure what it is. That’s why we got the test done on me,” Saunders said. “I’m still waiting on the information from the team’s doctors. Whenever I figure out what is really going on with my body, I’ll be happy to share.”

Jets notes …

» Tight end Jeff Cumberland did not practice on Wednesday as he worked with the team’s training staff on the side. A team source tells Metro his Achilles injury still needs time to recover, but he “definitely” should be ready before the season opener.

» Michael Vick was very sharp in practice Wednesday, including in the two-minute drill. His ball placement continues to be solid.

» It has been a very good week for cornerback Ellis Lankster, who on Wednesday had a nice break-up on a Geno Smith pass. In addition, defensive lineman Leger Douzable was constantly in the backfield as he harassed the quarterbacks.
